This mask was crafted and painted in 2004.  It was to be issued to Curtis Joseph to wear during the 2004-05 season. Naturally, the lockout happened and wiped out the entire season.  Curtis Joseph’s Red Wings contract was originally a three year contract with a 4th optional year.  With the salary cap being introduced at the end of the lockout, the Red Wings did not pick up the option, as it no longer made financial sense for the organization.
